And, as if as the result of a poorly performed magic act, the speedometer worked perfectly.īut, changing the transmission also changed the layout of the openings in the floorboards, cut to accommodate the tower mounting the shift lever and the emergency brake lever. So, a donor transmission, with the proper main shaft to match my 1923 speedometer, was artfully crafted and installed. But, as work progressed, and it was found that the transmission I had put in the car, albeit it looked right, was apparently from a model of car older than my 1923 vintage car.
And, even after the bucket was bolted to the frame, they had a semblance to something done purposefully. The first set, done while the bucket was loosely set on the frame, were the best. I have redone the floor boards of my 1923 DB Roadster three times now, and they still aren’t anywhere near perfect.
