A fully staffed control center was established in 1995 with four full-time dispatchers, trained to operate SCADA and the Outage Management System. The System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system installed in 1989 gives Baldwin EMC state-of-the-art control over its electrical distribution system and minimizes outage time. It was the first utility in the county to implement 24-hour manned dispatch services, tremendously improving response time and improving members satisfaction. The coastal area’s development has sparked tremendous economic growth, primarily in tourism.īaldwin EMC, which is the sole electrical provider for the coastal area of the county, has been a leader in technological advances. A branch office opened in Bay Minette in 1974, and the Monroe County warehouse/field office opened in 1995.Īfter Hurricane Frederic destroyed many of the existing structures along the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in September 1979, the resulting building boom was significant in development of the area.
